I started Yoga about 15 years ago and have been teaching Yoga since 2014. Over the years I have attended different Yoga classes, workshops and retreats in a variety of different Yoga styles. It is good to have the knowledge and experience of different style of Yoga.
However since training and graduating as a Yoga teacher from Om Yoga Studio, my personal Yoga practice and teaching are greatly influenced and inspired by Gitananda Yoga originated from the south of India. I had also attended a two-week intensive residensial course in Ananda Ashram in Pondicherry, India in which Gitananda Yoga is rooted. This Yoga system is very thorough and inclusive of all aspects of life.
For me the essence of Yoga is self-awareness. Being aware of our physical and mental state at all time is paramount in understanding our true nature and achieving balance in life. In my class, I emphasise greatly on being attentive to our body and breath as much as possible. Breathing is important as it affects greatly our mental and emotional state. On a physical level, correct breathing will help to increase body oxygen intake and eliminate carbon dioxide.
A typical class will start with quiet sitting to settle the body and mind, then a short warm-up session before going through different Yoga postures and breathing techniques. Towards the end there will be mindfulness practice and relaxation to finish. The class is suitable for all levels as I do my best to give modifications and adjustments to suit different requirements.
